Hi there reader, welcome to the first post of Projects in Progress! As a reminder, these type of posts are about projects I'm working on in my home studio.
Since my Fall/Winter 2014 Collection, I had a bunch of scraps and, extra fabric left over. Such is the challenge of any craft-er, what to do with scraps and extra fabric?
Quilting has always been something I admired. So as captain obvious I gave it a whirl.

I like the phrase Doreen Virtue says, "Serve a purpose and your purpose will serve you".
Last week, I lost track of time and got creative. Since summer evenings are long I sewed for several hours, had dinner, and back at it. I did that for a couple of days. Although I still have a bit more to go (I still need to finish off the sides and putt backing fabric on the inside), the project was a lot easier than I imagined.
This is my first time quilting but, I learned how to quilt from a book called "Quilt-As-You-Go Made Modern".

I've been thinking about this quilt design since June, and sketched it in my notebook. I used eco-fill fabrics (fabric made from recycled water bottles), vegan fur (synthetic fabric that looks like fur), and 100% percent polyester silk (so it's cruelty free and vegan too!). And of course polyester thread and left over muslin fabric. I literally made the tote from the scrap of scraps. Like the kind that are tempting to throw away, the one inch by two inches scraps.
There were moments when I wasn't sure how the quilt would look like, or even turn out. So I kept telling myself, just keep going, it will all work out.

I still want to add some embroidery stitches to make it more special. Not sure yet if I'll do hand stitches or machine embroidery, or just machine stitch some shapes on there like quilts usually have.
The tote bag is closer to being finished since I took these photos. I finished the bottom seams. What's really freaking me out is the seams on the sides. How do I keep the tote bag square like on the sides? I'm thinking the only way to do it is sew in tiny seams on the bottom and on the sides separately, or one long strip of fabric? But than if I do the latter, it will have a curved look on the sides and the tote may not stand up.
Any suggestions on how I should sew the sides of the tote bag?
